Local Engagement Campaign
The 99% Local Engagement Campaign team is up and running, and lobbying MPs, councillors and local newspapers about the rise of Mass Impoverishment in members’ local areas. The group runs on a mutual support basis where members share ideas and successes with each other.
We have a very active WhatsApp group which has so far seen debates about the Internal Markets Bill, free school meals (the Marcus Rashford campaign) and deprivation, as well as discussion around local issues in members’ areas.
Our first campaign theme was about deprivation in local communities where members felt particularly strongly about how they might be living in a reasonably affluent part of a town, whilst ‘just down the road’ there was an area blighted by poverty and impoverishment. Forthcoming campaigns are likely to focus on ensuring that ‘good growth’ lies at the heart of our economic recovery and promoting the 99% message in the council elections in May 2021.
