We can all see the need for national renewal. But Labour has so far struggled to deliver renewal both because of institutional obstacles and because of a lack of clarity of focus. Our argument is that delivery of national renewal is still possible but requires attitudes and capabilities not recently present in government or in our key institutions. There is a major task of reinvention needed if we are to see delivery.

Dear [MP name],
A Blueprint for National Renewal — at Labour Party Conference
The Prime Minister has spoken of the need for national renewal “In the 1980s, Britain took some wrong turns. Political power was centralised, economic power privatised, large parts of the country de-industrialised, and they still haven’t recovered. Many feel as though they’re still in decline, and they don’t have the ability to turn things around. And that’s why we will change politics …”
He is right. But he has not yet shown that he will take the steps needed to deliver renewal, and we cannot afford even one more Budget that fails to move the needle on the cost-of-living crisis.
The 99% Organisation will be launching a ground-breaking new report: ‘A Blueprint for National Renewal’ presented by a panel with deep expertise in economics, business and finance. This event is hugely important to the Labour Party and to the country.
If you cannot attend in person, a member of your staff is welcome to join.
Date and time: 3:00pm (until 4:00pm) on Monday 28 September
Location: Quaker Meeting House, 22 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT
RSVP: Phil White (phil.white@99-percent.org)
I hope you will be able to attend.
Yours sincerely,
[Your name]
