The Man with the Plan

In 1942, Sir William Beveridge published a report which set out to tackle what he called the five giants: “Want… Disease, Ignorance, Squalor and Idleness.” His report was both a surprise best-seller and set the vision for the creation of the NHS and the Welfare State.

Sands Film Studios have released a new film, The Man with the Plan, which describes Beveridge’s original vision and how it has been watered down over time.

During the production of the film, many speakers were invited to give their thoughts, one of whom was Mark E Thomas.
